Chapter-5 Helping the poor is the best way to attain heaven

Then someone came to Jesus and said, "Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?"

And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good?” There is only one who is good. If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.” He said to him, “Which ones?”

And Jesus said,“You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; Honor your father and mother; also, you shall love your neighbor as yourself”.The young man said to him, “I have kept all these; what do I still lack?” Jesus said to him,“If you wish to be perfect, go, sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.”When the young man heard this word, he went away grieving, for he had many possessions.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you,it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven.Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astounded and said, “Then who can be saved?” But Jesus looked at them and said, “For mortals it is impossible, but for God all things are possible.”

Then Peter said in reply, “Look, we have left everything and followed you. What then will we have?” Jesus said to them, “Truly tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man is seated on the throne of his glory, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold, and will inherit eternal life.But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first. - Matthew 19:16 - 30; Mark 10:17- 31; Luke 18:18 - 30; Luke 10:25 - 37

Having total faith in Jesus and living with him is the life in heaven which is eternal life. Already in this world we should begin to live the holy life which is the heavenly life.

Another one asked this important question to Jesus. “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” And he said to him, “Love your neighbour as yourself” (Luke10:25-27). Love should be the top most priority in our lives. We must do good to everyone and should never do evil to anyone. We shall do good to even those would do evil to us. We shall bless those who curse us. Jesus proved these things by his very life itself. Let us make the teachings and life of Jesus as our very life itself. And the Lord Jesus will take us to live in heaven. He will shower the Holy Spirit and his gifts on us.

We should not live in this world obsessed with the desire for riches. We have to live having faith in the Lord. Jesus says that those who gathered wealth in selfishness cannot enter heaven. We should be careful to help others. We cannot find fulfilment by the riches of this world. We should help the poor. With the human power we cannot attain heaven. But everything is possible for God. Therefore we shall live having faith in God. Let us pray that the Lord will fill us with the earthly benefits, heavenly benefits and all goodness. Let us pray that the Lord God anoint us with the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit and thus lead us to heaven. God forgives our sins because of our faith in him. He guides us to heaven. We become the disciples of Jesus. We become the holy people born of God.

Those who help the poor alone will attain eternal life

God Lord Jesus teaches us the ways to attain eternal life already in this life. Helping those who have no food, no clothing and still are in suffering without the necessities of life and further doing good, loving them is the way to heaven. The humaneness should be the centre of our life.

Saint Mother Teresa cared for the poor and the orphans and thus lived the life of heaven on the earth itself. If we do not do good to the poor in our life, we will receive the punishment of getting buried in the burning ocean of hell. The Lord cautions us announcing the final judgement. In order to escape from the burning ocean of hell, we should get rid of our sinful life and being transformed we should live a holy life. We should live having all the more faith in the Lord Jesus. By our faith in the Lord we will live in heaven for ever. The Lord saves us from sin, from satan and the fire of hell.
